The 1441 m high Hadzhi Dimitar peak is located in Shipchensko-Trevnenska mountain. This rocky peak is better known by its old name Buzludzha which dates back to 1942.
On this peak on July 18, 1868, Hadzhi Dimitar and thirty of his troops fought their final battle. They lost the unequal battle with the Turkish troops, and the the leader Hadji Dimitar died at the age of just 28 years. The battle inspired the revolutionary poet Hristo Botev to write the ballad “Hadzhi Dimitar” in 1873.
